This protest is, of course, the key event in the evolutionary process we're seeing in the deaf community.

The protesters are all about the old deaf guards who don’t believe in the re-integration of deaf people back into the hearing society.

The deaf communities are facing major evolutionary changes in the near future which enable them to mainstream and re-integrate back into the hearing society. They are cochlear implants and recently, stem cells, which are promising to be part of the final solutions to addressing deafness. These medical marvels have enabled deaf people to function almost like hearing people. This has created a new deaf society in the past decade and this new deaf society has been slowly taking over Gallaudet University operations.

The protests you’re seeing is the old deaf guard's last stand against the changes in the future of deaf society, against the new deaf society taking over Gallaudet University.

Jane's leadership has the support of the new deaf society and is best one to lead the new deaf society which comprises 80 percent of the students at Gallaudet into the future.

The protesters are about the past deaf society, about the old deaf guards who have become the scourge of the deaf communities.

They have to give it up because they can’t beat the evolutionary process the deaf society is facing.

To Anonymous... I understand that you must be so frustrated! I would be frustrated too if I just wanted to go to school and learn!! But the situation is so bad that school cannot continue until it is resolved. We are hoping that alumni going will help to solve the situation faster so you CAN go back to school soon!! *smile*

To ocdac... Hi, Mr. Roehm. Thank you for your courteous explanation of your perspective. I would like to respectfully disagree with you. Many of the supporters that I have personally talked to have never attended Gallaudet and did not go to a deaf residential school. I myself am from a hearing family and was mainstreamed most of my life. This is not about not liking someone nor is it about clinging on to something that is "dying," as you believe.

This protest is about a flawed process and about a woman who has proven herself incapable to lead in the past five months since her selection. She has yet to reach out to the students, to the faculty, and to the alumni. These past two weeks have made it even more obvious that she couldn't lead a horse to water, no matter what other talents she may have.

I do not wish to get into an argument with you. You've had your say, which I respect. :) And I've had mine. We can agree to disagree, hmm? *smile*

I need to get to school and to my mail (bills to pay). Not to mention those students/teachers that rely on on-campus jobs to pay their rent.

I totally support the reasoning behind the protest, but too many things have occured that have not allowed for a peaceful protest that INVOLVES successful negotiating. For example, I thought the throwing of orange juice at the IKJ retirement ceremony on him and his grandson was cruel and vicious. I understand that emotions are raw, but doing something like that was totally uncalled for.

No one can force JKF to resign, it is purely her decision. If the protesters want something to be effectively done they need to be demanding a 3rd party investigation of the selection process for President. Neither IKJ or BOT can FORCE her to resign. IKJ showed such great restrainant for allowing the protestors to continue for so many days. It is a tough situation that he was in last night, he made the best decision he could based upon ALL people at Gallaudet involved. It is still his job to retain peace, order, safety and to allow for an education for all.

The bottom line is....he doesn't even have to be here. He could have resigned months ago when he announced his retirement and have already left the University and be sipping Margarita's on the beach (most Presidents do that!)! But, the fact is that he has a strong connection to Gallaudet and a strong sense of obligation that he stayed in order to ensure that the person transitioning into his position would be trained properly in order to take over of the University he loves. Most people don't do that for any job, unless they care about their job/company/students/faculty/staff. He is in a tough place now and he is showing such restraint.

I understand the reasoning why people don't want JKF. Let's face it; no matter in a hearing or a deaf world you NEED a leader that can COMMUNICATE effectively. This is the #1 complaint for all ineffective leaders in any organization. She obviously lacks warmth, friendliness and communication skills that is an important part of the Deaf Community.

Although, she has had the #2 position at Gallaudet for the past 6 years. She probably was the best candidate that had the most intimate experience with the workings of the University. The BOT selected her as the most prominate candidate. What can we do?

We have let her know how we feel, she has decided not to resign (her choice only)....what other choice do we have when there is no negotiating? There will always be bosses in our future jobs that we will NOT like. What must we do as adults? Accept it OR find another job. Unfortunately, this is OUR University....the Deaf University.....where else will you go? It saddens me to see everyone say they will simply quit Gallaudet. You only hurt yourself in that situation and you attend a school that doesn't even care about Deaf and have no clue about the Deaf Community.

We can only hope that JKF has heard our complaints and hopefully now she is given the chance she will take the opportunity to change certain things about her. How will we know if we never give her the chance?

It saddened me to see the destruction of IKJ name on the Student Union. This has to end soon, in order to restore campus moral.

We need to heal.....NOW. We can only do that together
